Atmen nicht vergessen! Die Nacht ist kühl, die Luft ist klar, der Himmel ist übersät mit Sternen wie ein schwarzes Sieb, in dem eine Lampe angeknipst worden ist. Stille – und plötzlich tauchen sie auf aus dem Nichts: Die grünen Lichtelfen tanzen am Nachthimmel.
Es ist jedes Mal wieder ein magischer Moment, wenn ich die Nordlichter über Island sehe. Es ist ein mystisches Spektakel, mal bewegt sich das grüne Licht wie ein hauchdünner Seidenschal am Himmel, dann fällt die Farbe wie ein grüner Wasserfall in Zeitlupe vor schwarzem Hintergrund.
„Das nördliche Polarlicht, auch Aurora Borealis genannt, ist eine Leuchterscheinung, die beim Auftreffen geladener Teilchen des Sonnenwindes auf die Erdatmosphäre hervorgerufen werden und vorhandene Luftmoleküle zum Leuchten anregen“ – so die sachlich-fachliche Erklärung laut Wikipedia. Je nach Höhe in der der Aufprall geschieht, haben Polarlichter unterschiedliche Farben: Grünes Licht entsteht durch Sauerstoffatome, die in gut 100 Kilometer Höhe angeregt werden, rotes Licht von Sauerstoffatomen in etwa 200 Kilometer Höhe. Angeregte Stickstoffatome senden violettes bis blaues Licht aus.
Absolut geflasht hat mich die Ankunft der Aliens – zugegeben: Beim Anblick dieser Naturphänomene geht meine Fantasie mit mir durch. Aber noch nie habe ein Nordlicht so gesehen wie vor einer Woche im Norden Islands in Skagafjörður. Wie die grüne Bremsspur einer fliegenden Untertasse aus dem Universum hat sich das Nordlicht am Himmel abgezeichnet, parallel zur Milchstraße. Es schien, als führte das grüne Licht hintern den Berg, wo das Raumschiff mit Außerirdischen gelandet sei.

Dance of the green Light-Elves at the Icelandic sky
Don´t forget to breathe! The night is cool, the air is clear, the sky is dotted with stars as a black screen in which a lamp is switched on. Silence – and suddenly they appear out of nowhere: The green light elves dancing in the night sky.
It is every time a magical moment, when I see the Northern Lights over Iceland. It is a mystical spectacle, sometimes moving the green light as a very thin silk in the sky, then the color is like a green waterfall in slow motion against a black background.
„The North Aurora, Aurora Borealis also called, is an optical phenomenon caused when striking the charged particles of solar wind on the Earth’s atmosphere and encourage existing air molecules to glow“ – the factual and technical explanation, according to Wikipedia. Depending on the level happens in the collision, auroras have different colors: green light is created by oxygen atoms that are excited at about 100 kilometers altitude, oxygen atoms in red light of about 200 km altitude. Excited nitrogen atoms emit violet and blue light.
Absolutely flashed me has the arrival of the aliens – I admit: these natural phenomena stimulates my fantasy. But never have seen such an aurora as a week ago in the north of Iceland in Skagafjörður. As the green skid marks of a flying saucer from the universe, the Northern Light has signed off on the sky, parallel to the Milky Way. It seemed that the green light indicate where the spaceship had landed with aliens.
